SJMC

Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has been named Malaysia’s most-listed hospital in the Newsweek Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2025 rankings, with recognition across eight medical specialties. This marks an increase from seven listings the previous year, maintaining SJMC’s consistent presence in the annual regional rankings.

The hospital remained in the Top 50 for Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Cardiac Surgery, and Endocrinology. Improvements were noted in Oncology and Neurology, while Cardiology maintained its position from last year. Neurosurgery was included for the first time in the 2025 edition, highlighting the hospital’s continued development in specialist care services.

SJMC Chief Executive Officer Bryan Lin said, “This recognition comes as the hospital marks its 40th year. It reflects the dedication of our teams in delivering patient-centred care and adapting to evolving healthcare needs. We remain focused on strengthening our services through innovation, preventive care, and digital health solutions.

Established in 1985, SJMC has been involved in several medical milestones in Malaysia’s private healthcare sector, including the country’s first private open-heart surgery, bone marrow transplant, and daycare total knee replacement. Its bone marrow transplant programme has performed over 950 procedures, among the highest for private hospitals in the country.

The hospital has also introduced remote patient monitoring and other digital health services through its Connected Care initiative, designed to provide continuity of care beyond the hospital setting. Its multidisciplinary approach aims to enhance coordination across medical specialties, particularly in complex areas such as oncology, cardiology, and neurosurgery.

With the Asia-Pacific region facing increasing demand for healthcare, driven in part by an ageing population projected to reach 1.3 billion over the age of 60 by 2050, SJMC has expanded its investments in infrastructure, technology, and medical expertise to meet these challenges.

SJMC is also part of broader efforts to position Malaysia as a regional healthcare destination. It is a finalist in the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council’s (MHTC) Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital Programme, endorsed by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

The Newsweek Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2025 rankings were developed in partnership with global data firm Statista, drawing on peer recommendations from thousands of medical professionals and hospital executives across nine countries, including Australia, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia.

SJMC has been accredited three times by the Joint Commission International (JCI) and is recognised as the first hospital in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve four Centres of Excellence in Oncology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Paediatrics from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI).

Earlier in 2025, SJMC was also featured in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals and Asia’s Top Private Hospitals, continuing its longstanding presence in regional and international healthcare assessments.
