Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) and Taiwan’s Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cross-border healthcare collaboration, with a strong focus on delivering better, patient-centred care.

The partnership enables both institutions to share clinical expertise, conduct joint research, and strengthen care through bilateral patient referrals. One of the core patient-focused elements of the MoU is the creation of a bilateral referral framework for complex or specialised cases. Patients in Malaysia and Taiwan can now be referred between SMCV and Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital, ensuring that care continues without disruption, regardless of geography.

This cross-border model allows for faster second opinions, emergency transfers with clear protocols, and coordinated post-treatment follow-ups. For patients, this means less waiting, more accurate diagnoses, and care that doesn’t end at the hospital door.

“This collaboration allows us to tap into each other’s strengths to deliver seamless, high-quality care,” said Dr Wee Tong Ming, Medical Director at SMCV.

The MoU also supports continuous medical education, joint clinical trials, and sustainability efforts, with both hospitals committed to building resilient healthcare systems that prioritise outcomes over volume.

“Our goal is clear, better care for patients, through shared knowledge, innovation, and global cooperation,” said SMCV CEO Susan Cheow.
