A joint medical camp was recently held at Pangsapuri Suakasih,  bringing together healthcare professionals, volunteers, and residents for a day of health screenings, education, and community activities. The project was spearheaded by Rotary Club (RC) Melawati and RC Cheras, in collaboration with RC Bandar Utama, RC Bukit Bintang, RC Hulu Langat Eco, RC Mont Kiara Gateway, RC Damansara Uptown the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), Pfizer, the Ministry of Health’s Public Health Department, and District Hulu Langat authorities.

The event also saw active participation from the Resident Association of Pangsapuri Suakasih and was supported by local leaders YB Tuan Syahredzan Johan, Member of Parliment, Bangi and Adun Balakong, YB Tuan Tuan Ong Chuan Wei. A total of 171 adults and 50 children attended the camp, underscoring the strong engagement from the local community.

The primary aim of the medical camp was the early detection of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and hepatitis, along with early cancer detection and identifying cancer risk factors for timely medical counselling. In addition, the camp emphasized the importance of preventive health measures through educational campaigns on:

  • Dengue awareness and prevention

  • Proper hand hygiene

  • Organ donation and its life-saving potential

The medical camp offered a range of services and activities tailored to both adults and children, including:

  • Comprehensive medical examinations – including breast examinations and counselling sessions.

  • Screening tests – including blood tests, HPV DNA tests, stool analysis, and lung function tests.

  • Hands-on CPR training – enabling participants to learn life-saving techniques.

  • Installation of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) – with training for residents on its use in cardiac emergencies.

  • Health education – through posters, videos, and interactive discussions.

  • Children’s colouring contest – with the theme of anti-dengue awareness.

  • Distribution of deworming and delousing medication, multivitamins, and Panadol syrup, with clear instructions for proper usage.

The screenings led to the detection of several health concerns among participants with 4 women with abnormal breast findings were identified for further diagnostic evaluation and 3 participants were diagnosed with hypertension, while several suspected diabetic cases were referred for further testing and management.

Appropriate referrals were made to relevant medical facilities to ensure participants received timely follow-up care.

Community Impact and Future Plans

This initiative not only provided free and comprehensive medical check-ups but also empowered residents with the knowledge to take charge of their health. The presence of the AED machine, coupled with resident training, marks a step forward in enhancing the community’s emergency response capabilities.

The camp highlighted the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare, as well as the impact of collaboration between NGOs, government agencies, and community groups. Future initiatives are expected to expand screening services and health education efforts to other communities in the region.

The success of this medical camp was made possible by the tireless efforts of the Rotary Clubs, NCSM, Pfizer, the Ministry of Health, and the Resident Association of Pangsapuri Suakasih, along with the strong support of local leaders and volunteers. It was a true demonstration of what can be achieved when communities come together for the health and well-being of all.
