Two-time cancer warrior Mazwin Radli crossed the finish line at her first full marathon and raises over RM17,500 in donations for Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia

When Mazwin Radli crossed the finish line of her first-ever full marathon on Sunday at the SCORE KL Marathon, she wasn’t just completing 42 kilometres, she was making a bold statement about survivorship, resilience, and the reality of cancer recurrence.

A decade after her initial breast cancer diagnosis, Mazwin, a mother of three and corporate professional, marked her 10th Cancerversary with a remarkable personal challenge: to run her first full marathon and raise funds for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA). Her campaign, Mighty Mazwin’s Marathon, raised over RM17,500 in donations for the organisation where she now volunteers.

But in a poignant twist of fate, the celebration of her milestone was interrupted by a second diagnosis as thyroid cancer was discovered during a routine scan. Undeterred, Mazwin underwent surgery to remove the tumour and her thyroid glands, prioritising her health and reducing the risk of recurrence.

Just one week after surgery, with her doctor’s clearance and unwavering determination, she resumed marathon training. “I put myself in my doctor’s hands,” Mazwin shared. “My best chance was to listen to medical advice and make informed decisions.”

Two months later, on 13 July, Mazwin completed the marathon with a time of  6 hours, 7 minutes, and 40 seconds. Waiting at the finish line were cheering friends, fellow survivors, and BCWA members including BCWA President Kim Lim and Secretary Liew Swee Lee, both breast cancer survivors themselves.

“We are incredibly proud of Mazwin,” said Kim. “Her physical accomplishment is impressive, but more importantly, she’s using her voice and experience to highlight the challenges of cancer recurrence, a topic that’s often overlooked.”

Throughout her two-month fundraising campaign, Mazwin documented her training journey, encouraging the public to support her cause and spreading a powerful message about vigilance in survivorship.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d run a marathon,” she said. “But I also never thought I’d be diagnosed with cancer a second time. That’s why I want people to keep up with their annual check-ups and scans, even if they feel fine.”

When asked how she felt after completing the race, Mazwin laughed, “I feel good. I think it’s time for a durian treat and then a nap!”

The Mighty Mazwin’s Marathon fundraising campaign closes at midnight on 15 July 2025. Donations over RM100 are eligible for tax exemption receipts. To contribute, visit: https://forms.gle/9kyvf2ryGWvqi5Vf9
